2. Description and Applications
BioVector® CHCC-OU1 is a chemically transformed chick embryo fibroblastic cell line established by treatment with the carcinogen N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) . The cell line was derived from chicken helper factor (chf)-negative chick embryo cells, ensuring the absence of endogenous avian leukosis virus helper activity that could interfere with viral assays .

CHCC-OU1 cells exhibit transformed characteristics including multilayer growth (piling up) and colony formation in soft agar, indicating anchorage-independent growth . Despite these transformed properties in vitro, the cell line is non-tumorigenic as it does not produce tumors either in syngeneic chickens or in nude mice .

The cell line constitutively produces avian endogenous leukosis virus of subgroup E, making it a valuable tool for avian retrovirology research .
