BioVector® NTCC® MOS-J
The NTCC® MOS-J cell line is a mouse osteosarcoma cell line, derived from a spontaneously occurring chondroblastic osteosarcoma. It is an important research model for studying bone cancer and bone biology.
Key characteristics
Origin: The cell line was established in 2002 from a spontaneously occurring chondroblastic osteosarcoma in the distal right femur of a female C57BL/6J mouse.
Osteogenic properties: MOS-J cells exhibit key osteoblastic features in vitro, including high alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and the ability to form calcified foci.
Promotes osteoclast development: These cells also promote the differentiation of normal bone marrow cells into osteoclasts, a process crucial for bone remodeling.
Tumorigenicity: When injected into syngeneic hosts (mice of the same genetic strain), MOS-J cells form solid tumors that mimic the characteristics of endochondral bone development. The tumors can invade and destroy existing bone.
Applications:
Osteosarcoma research: It serves as a valuable model for studying human osteosarcoma, a common type of bone cancer.
Drug development: MOS-J cells have been used to evaluate chemotherapy drug responses.
Bone biology: Due to its osteoblastic characteristics and ability to promote osteoclast development, it is useful for studying various aspects of bone biology.
Resources and references
Cellosaurus: The Cellosaurus database provides detailed information on the MOS-J cell line under the accession number CVCL_0J56.
Publications: The original paper describing the establishment and characterization of the cell line was published in In Vivo in 2002.
Animal models: MOS-J cells are used to create syngeneic mouse models of osteosarcoma, including jaw osteosarcoma (JOS) models.
