NTCC™Murine Cytomegalovirus (MCMV) is a DNA virus belonging to the Betaherpesvirinae subfamily of the Herpesviridae family, and it is a natural pathogen of mice.
Key Characteristics
Classification: MCMV is an enveloped, double-stranded DNA virus. Its genome structure and gene expression patterns share many similarities with human cytomegalovirus (HCMV).
Host Specificity: MCMV has strict host specificity and can only infect mice. Although it can infect rat cells in vitro, it does not replicate in rats in vivo.
Transmission: The virus can be transmitted through bodily fluids such as saliva, urine, and tears. In natural infections, the virus primarily establishes a persistent presence in the mouse's salivary glands.
