NTCC® Pseudoalteromonas antarctica strain NF3



Classification: It is a psychrotolerant (cold-tolerant) marine bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudoalteromonas.


Origin: The strain NF3 was isolated from a coastal marine environment in Antarctica, specifically from the South Shetland Islands.


Key Characteristics: This bacterium is notable for its ability to survive in extreme cold environments. A significant feature is its production of a large amount of an extracellular polymeric substance (EPS), which is a slimy, protective material with a high protein content. This EPS is thought to play a vital role in the bacterium's survival in the harsh Antarctic environment.


Research Interest: Scientists study this strain to understand how it adapts to its cold, nutrient-poor habitat. The EPS it produces is of particular interest as a potential source of novel, cold-adapted proteins and other biomolecules with possible industrial or biotechnological applications.
