The NTCC® K562-IL15 cell line is a genetically engineered variant of the K562 cell line. It is a valuable tool in immunology research, particularly in the field of natural killer (NK) cell biology.
K562 Cell Line:
Origin: Derived from a patient with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML).
Characteristics: Does not express MHC class I molecules, making it a suitable target for NK cell cytotoxicity assays.
IL-15 Transduction:
IL-15: Interleukin-15 is a cytokine that plays a crucial role in the development, survival, and activation of NK cells.
Transduction: K562 cells are genetically modified to express IL-15 on their surface.
Applications of K562-IL15 Cells:
NK Cell Expansion:
K562-IL15 cells are used as feeder cells to expand NK cells in vitro.
The membrane-bound IL-15 provides continuous stimulation to NK cells, promoting their proliferation and activation.
