The MOLP-2 cell line is a well-established human multiple myeloma cell line. It was derived from the peripheral blood of a 55-year-old man with IgD lambda type multiple myeloma in 1991. It is commonly used in research to study the biology of multiple myeloma and to test potential therapies.
The MOLP-2 cell line is characterized by the following features:
Morphology: Round to polymorph cells growing singly or in small clumps.
Growth conditions: 80% RPMI 1640 + 20% h.i. FBS + 2 mM L-glutamine.
Doubling time: ~72 hours (PubMed=8148313); ~4 days (DSMZ=ACC-607).
Surface markers: CD3-, CD10-, CD13-, CD19+, CD20-, CD33+, CD34-, CD37+, CD38+, cyCD79a+, CD138+, sm/cyIgG-, sm/cyIgM-.
Genetic alterations: TP53 mutation (p. Ala159Val).
