Derivation
Alpha TC1 clone 6 is a pancreatic alpha cell line. It was cloned from the alpha TC1 cell line, which was derived from an adenoma created in transgenic mice expressing the SV40 large T antigen oncogene under the control of the rat preproglucagon promoter.

Comments
The parental cell line is less differentiated and produces both glucagon and insulin. Two clonal cell lines, alpha TC1 clone 6 and alpha TC1 clone 9 (ATCC CRL-2350), are more differentiated than the parent line and produce only glucagon Ref. alpha TC1 clone 6 cells exhibit the most differentiated phenotype and express the highest levels of glucagon.
