E. coli strain GB08-red enables recombineering of plasmids and BACs without the necessity to maintain an expression plasmid in the cells since the necessary genes are located on the chromosome. Applications include all types of "linear plus circular" homologous recombination experiments (e.g. plasmid modifications).
