The human microglial cell line, CHME3, was established by Professor Tardieu. This cell line responds to stimulation with LPS by increased secretion of IL-6, a cytokine also secreted under basal conditions. CHME3 microglial cells also secrete low, but detectable, levels of IL-1β and TNFα as well as other cytokines.

CHME3 cells were cultured in T75 or T175 bottles in culture medium (DMEM/high glucose w/o sodium pyruvate supplemented with 2 mM L-glutamine or GlutaMaxII and 10% heat-inactivated FCS).
