Derived by passage of ATCC® VR-784™ in Vero cells (ATCC® CCL-81™). This product replaces ATCC® VR-784™ and exhibits CPE when cells are infected.
Note: The sequences of ATCC® VR-784™ and ATCC® VR-1775™ have not been compared.
Effect on Host
CPE in the form of cell rounding, sloughing and degeneration of the monolayer.
Recommended Host
Vero (ATCC® CCL-81™)
Growth Conditions
Temperature: 37°C
Recommendations for Infection: Plant cells 24-48 hours in advance and infect when cultures are 70-80% confluent. Remove medium, wash cell monolayer once with PBS, and inoculate with a small volume (eg. 1 mL per cm2) of virus diluted to provide a MOI of about 0.1. Adsorb 1-2 hours at 37°C in a humidified 5% CO2 atmosphere. End adsorption by adding virus growth medium.
Incubation: Incubate infected culture for 5-9 days at 37ºC in a humidified 5% CO2 atmosphere, until CPE are well advanced through 90% of the culture.
Effect on Host
CPE in the form of cell rounding, sloughing and degeneration of the monolayer.

Deposited as Enterovirus type 71
Source Stool specimen from 2-month-old male with aseptic meningitis. ® VR-784™ in Vero cells (ATCC® CCL-81™.). This product replaces ATCC® VR-784™. and exhibits CPE when cells are infected.
